"NOT EVERY CAR IS A CHERRY." "THIS IS THE WORST PIECE OF JUNK I EVER OWNED!" "I BABY MY CAR - SHE GETS NOTHING BUT THE BEST!" "IT GETS ME FROM POINT 'A' TO POINT 'B'." "I'M SICK OF LOOKING AT THAT BLACK WHEEL!" "THIS IS MY BEATER." "DAMN CURBS! GOT A NICE REPLACEMENT?" ______________________________________________________ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ ______________________________________________________ Here at Hubcaps On Wheels we realize that not everyone wants to spend a fortune replacing a missing hubcap, nor do they necessarily want the BEST especially since the car itself may have "seen better days." And many of the competitors offer nothing less than Grade "A" Insurance Quality hubcaps at premium prices. So when requesting pricing & availability on a particular hubcap, in my response you will often be given a choice on the condition and price. When making your decision, please refer to the detailed information below. Please remember - this is only a guideline. Other factors not mentioned below may contribute to a particular hubcap being rated higher or lower. (For example, a hubcap may be "EXCELLENT" cosmetically, but in need of clip repairs* which would reduce it to the "GOOD" category.) And as always - please feel free to ask more specific questions about the hubcap you plan on purchasing.
CONDITION & DESCRIPTION:
NEW /
NOS -
This is a Brand
New, never used hubcap or a New Car takeoff. This may or may not be available
with the original manufacturer's box or packaging. A NEW or NOS hubcap may
have little or no shelf wear. This does not necessarily mean it will be a
"show-quality" piece, but it may be. If the hubcap is still available
new through your local dealership, I'll be able to save you $$$! (RATING:
NEW)
VERY GOOD
used hubcap - This will be the nicest reconditioned hubcap I have
available, clean front & back. No cracks, no dents, no broken clips, nothing missing. Any visible
defects will be minor and hardly noticeable unless you look for them. After
you install it, you may even think that it's new when compared with the rest
of them. Remember though it IS used and may not be absolutely perfect.
But if
you must have the best, then this is it! (RATING: 8 - 9)
GOOD used hubcap - This hubcap may begin as
fair or good quality and is then reconditioned. As time permits I may clean the
backside. This would be your nice daily
driver hubcap. It will have some minor imperfections such as scuffs, small
scratches, marks, or dings that you'll see up close
but in most cases will not
visible from 5' once installed on your vehicle. This is what most of my
customers select for their everyday ride. In most cases, a good used hubcap will be reconditioned to look
just as good if not better than the ones you already have. If it is a plastic wheel cover, it may have a repaired clip or two*,
especially if the style was prone to clip breakage but usually no more than 30%
of the clips will have required repair. (RATING: 6 - 7)
FAIR used hubcap - This hubcap will have noticeable
marks, scratches, etc. You
may
see some of these cosmetic defects from 10' once
installed on your vehicle, but
they usually won't detract
from the overall appearance. If your picky, this is not for
you but will save you some extra money. Great deal if hubcaps aren't as
important to you as they are to me. ;o) In any case, this will
still make your ride look good and stop others who continuously harass you
about that eyesore of a wheel. A rim with lug nuts showing is much more
noticeable than a hubcap with scratches or dents! If plastic, this cover will probably have one or more repaired
clips but usually no more than 50% of the clips will have been repaired.
(RATING: 4 - 5)
POOR used
hubcap - "Cover the Wheel to Sell the Car" special - These are my cheapest. I
save these beaters for your beater! Bottom of the barrel. Certainly not the nicest cosmetically but
people won't be nagging you to take $1000 off your selling price because
"it's missing a hubcap!" A poor hubcap may have cracks, breaks, or
missing clips, but is still quite useable unless I state otherwise. Generally I don't repair "POOR"
grade hubcaps, but I do test fit them to make sure they will still hold ok. This is a great buy too if you're just plain cheap but don't like to drive around with your nuts showing! One word of
warning though: If you're going
to be picky don't go with a poor quality or even a fair quality hubcap for
that matter! (RATING: 1 - 3)
* Important - Most plastic hubcaps nowadays are
quite fragile and require care when installing. Shortly after visiting your
local tire store or mechanic, you may find that you're in need of a
replacement hubcap. This is due to the carelessness with which hubcaps are installed after the work is completed or simply due to poor
retaining clip design. (You guys that drive Altimas, Imprezas, Galants, Jettas
& Beetles, Corollas, Volvos and
Grand Caravan Sports can attest to this!) Certain plastic hubcaps are notorious for
clip bending & breakage. Often times you'll even find bent or broken clips
on a hubcap that is still on your car! However, I won't sell a hubcap if I doubt it's ability to stay on.
For that reason I do all clip
repairs myself carefully & professionally using OEM clips (for
"GOOD" grade hubcaps) making sure that
replaced clips will fit and retain correctly according to the manufacturer's
specifications. In most cases, you won't even be able to tell that a repair
has been made since there may be little or no visible sign from the front of
the hubcap. All my repairs have to pass my inspection. And unfortunately,
I can be a little too picky for my own good! (Note: "FAIR" grade
hubcaps may be repaired with miscellaneous clips and not necessarily the OEM
clips that it was manufactured with. However, the end result will still be the
same - a good fit.)
